Sheridan Elementary School staff showed appreciation for their CFISD Adopt-a-School partner, Houston's First Baptist Church, with a picnic on Aug. 23. Houston's First "adopted" Sheridan in the 2018-2019 school year.
As part of safety procedures during professional development week, Principal Rene McIntyre and her staff visited the school's reunification site where students, parents and staff relocate in the event of an emergency. To make the visit more meaningful, McIntyre hosted a picnic for the staff. Sheridan Counselor Lisa Nachin reached out to Houston's First to see if they would join them.
During the picnic, Nachin and other staff members thanked Houston's First for their support by giving Cypress Campus Pastor Jason Swiggart a signed Sheridan spirit shirt.
"Houston's First Baptist Church's support is very special," McIntyre said. "Sheridan has not had a sponsor like this before and they have supported our staff with many treats the last couple of years to show their appreciation for the hard work out staff puts in on a daily basis."
The church's support for Sheridan has included providing cookies and coffee for staff on Valentine's Day, donating school supplies for Sheridan students and donating two bikes for Sheridan's health expo.
