Meet Cypress Creek High School junior Bryant Hill in this "Student of the Week" profile.www.cfisd.net17-year-old Hill serves as president of the National Honor Society for the 2019-2020 school year and the Human Environmental Animal Team (H.E.A.T.), a service organization that generated more than 400 service hours in its first year. He also competes on the varsity tennis team.Favorite class: "My favorite class by far has to be AP English III. It's one of the hardest courses I've had so far in high school and it's helped me to develop my skills much further as a writer. Our teacher Ms. (Kimberly) Stelly always makes class hard - she gives us challenges so we can improve."Favorite things to do after class: "Playing tennis - it's so fun to be out on the courts with my teammates hitting around. It's just a great way to get a workout in while having fun and playing with my friends. I wouldn't trade seventh period tennis for anything, as it's the lighthearted fun that comes after a long day of work."Favorite song: "My favorite song is Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - it's a song that reminds me of my friends and family, and it's a way to remind myself that I'm never too far from home no matter where I end up."Favorite website: "My favorite website is definitely Netflix.com. It's just a really good way to unwind after a long week and helps me to enjoy my weekends."Favorite TV show: "By far the best show I've been watching currently is Blue Bloods. It's always playing on Friday nights in my house and by now I'm too invested to not care about it. My family and I have been watching it as a little tradition every Friday for as far back as I can remember."Ambition: "As long as I can remember I have been wanting to leave a mark on my school and the community around me. We only have four years to do as much good as we can at our high schools, so starting a new service club was a way I could leave a legacy I am proud of behind me. It's the constant boost of joy that comes every single time we construct a house for a family that lost its home, the boost of joy that comes from playing with the dogs at animal shelters after we bathe them, and the joy that comes from the friendships I've formed through service that motivate me the most. It's nice knowing that after I graduate in 2020, I can look back and see that at some point I made someone's day better than it was before."What topics/things are you passionate about?: "I'm very passionate about animals, volunteering and my teachers. Animals can't stand up for themselves, so it's always been a goal of mine to make sure I can help out abused and abandoned animals as much as possible, making sure they get they love and affection they deserve. As far as volunteering goes, I was tired of seeing clubs where you could get hundreds of hours just by buying things. I've found that you feel more connected to your community if you're working hands-on, helping out whenever possible. And as far as my teachers go, I feel like they're some of the most underappreciated people. They're juggling over a hundred students, their families and hundreds of assignments all while keeping their composure. It's always been important to me to make sure they feel appreciated and get the recognition they deserve for the sacrifices they've made to make sure we get a good education."Who inspires you?: "My main inspiration has been my teachers. Seeing them make sacrifices every day for their students is what really made the most impact in my life. They've taught me how to have fun while helping others, and how to make sure I'm working to my fullest abilities no matter how tough life gets."What three things can't you live without?: "There's no way I could live without my friends, Young Life and my TI-84 calculator. My friends help keep me motivated and bring me endless happiness on the weekends when we have time to hang out with each other. Young Life has been a great way to keep me connected spiritually, even when the school year is busy. It's been a great way to stay involved in church life and build my relationship with Christ. And I couldn't life without my TI-84 because it's saved me in so many situations, from the SAT to every math course ever. My TI-84 has been by my side to help me."What are you most looking forward to this semester?: "I'm really looking forward to AP testing season. I love the environment that comes with it, from the group study sessions at Starbucks to the late nights spent under a desk lamp trying to review the last material needed to secure the scores I want on my test. It's just such a good way to fully appreciate all we've been learning all year in our courses."
