At the end of November, Cypress Springs High School added to its legacy with a statue, which is affectionately named "Legacy."

The campus celebrated its 20-year anniversary during the 2017-2018 school year. On Nov. 28, Cypress Springs added another piece to that history as a panther statue was placed atop its platform in front of the school. The panther was named "Legacy," following a vote by the student body.

The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the 2018-2019 school year. The stand will be made of marble and the riser will feature the names of those who donated to make the statue possible for CFISD's sixth comprehensive high school, which opened its doors in 1997.
"I'm very excited that Legacy has arrived and I can't wait until he is completely finished, but he is here for everyone to see on the prowl for Cypress Springs," said Dr. Cheryl Henry, Cypress Springs principal.

Donors and other Cypress Springs supporters partnered with statuary Schlitzberger & Daughters Monument Co. to bring the life-sized panther statue to life.

Cypress Springs becomes the latest CFISD high school to feature a statue at its campus. Others are Cy-Fair (bobcat), Cypress Creek (cougar), Cypress Falls (eagle), Cypress Ridge (ram), Cypress Ranch (mustang), Cypress Woods (wildcat), Jersey Village (falcon) and Langham Creek (lobo). Most are outside in front of the school, while statues at Cypress Ridge and Cypress Ranch are in the front lobbies.

"The Panther looks great," said Dr. Plas Williams Jr., Cypress Springs director of instruction. "A lot of attention was paid to the details of it and (the statue) does our school proud by representing what we stand for - excellence."
