Six school productions advanced from the UIL District 17-6A One-Act Play zone competitions on March 8-9 to the final district competition, scheduled for March 20 at 3 p.m. at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress Road). In addition, Bridgeland High School’s production of Argonautika advanced to the District 20-5A One-Act Play, scheduled for March 20 at approximately 2:40 p.m. at Tomball High School (30330 Quinn Road, Tomball).

The following Class 6A schools advanced from Zone I:
Cypress Falls – Comedy of Errors
Cypress Woods – The Grapes of Wrath
Langham Creek – Moby Dick.
 
The following schools advanced from Zone II:
Cypress Creek – Reckless
Cypress Lakes – A Company of Wayward
Cypress Ranch – The Curious Incident
 
In Zone I, Cypress Woods senior Jax Collum was named Best Actor for the role of Tom Joad and Cypress Woods senior Alison Wine was named Best Actress for the role of Ma.
 
The following students were named to the Zone I All-Star Cast:
Julian Sedeno, Jersey Village – Hamlet
Nico Castillo, Cypress Falls, Dromio of Syracuse
Nicole Rojas, Langham Creek – Starbuck
Fiona Beeton, Cypress Ridge – Helen Keller

Treasure Blackburn, Langham Creek – Captain Ahab

Cypress Woods students Riley Burke, Marcus Gray, Alexandra Hutson, Isabela Arboleda-Ocoro and Grace Womack were named Best Technical Crew.
 
In Zone II, Cypress Ranch senior Morgan Simon was named Best Actor for the role of Christopher and Cy-Fair sophomore Emily Dobney was named Best Actress for the role of Teresa.

In the 5A zone competition between Bridgeland and Cypress Park, the following students earned honors:
Ashleigh Stoutner, Bridgeland – Best Technician
Calla Bentsen, Nathan Schutt and Joleigh Underwood, Bridgeland – All-Star Cast
John Hughes, Bridgeland – Best Actor
Jennifer Salinas, Cypress Park – Best Technician
Ryan Autry and Sofia Castro, Cypress Park – Honorable Mention
 
The District 17-6A One-Act Play finals will start at 3 p.m. on March 20 at the Berry Center. Tickets are $10 apiece and must be purchased at the door.
 
Plays will begin at the top of each hour in the following order:
Cypress Lakes
Cypress Woods
Cypress Falls
Cypress Creek
Langham Creek
Cypress Ranch
 
The District 20-5A One-Act Play finals will start at 2 p.m. on March 20 at Tomball High School. Tickets are $5 apiece. Bridgeland High School will perform second.
